Why Give

World mission is the command of Jesus Christ to all Christians. Opting out is not an option! God calls all to pray. He calls some to go. Those not called to go are able to give in support of the front-line workers by their financial support. Whatever our role, spreading the Good News of Christ is our mission.

The apostle Paul spoke of this strong sense of partnership with the people in the churches. In his letter to the believers at Philippi, he talks of their ‘partnership in the gospel.’ (Philippians 1:5)

In the fourth chapter, he calls the gift they had sent as, ‘sharing with me.’ In Paul’s mind, we’re all in it together. So giving is sharing in the task God has given us. Our gifts fulfil Christ’s command by enabling someone else to go, or in support of a project that accelerates the spreading of the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Paul points us to the example of Jesus Christ who, ‘though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich.’ (2 Corinthians 8:9) It is therefore incumbent upon all Christians to involve themselves in world mission.

To pray, give and go.
